Skin Biology – Workgroup Florian Gruber

The the major research topics of the Gruber research group are the interaction of the skin with the environment and aging of the skin.

The research group is headquarter of the Christian Doppler Laboratory on Skin Multimodal Imaging of Aging and Senescence – SKINMAGINE.

This CDL investigates, with a multimodal analytical imaging approach, how cellular senescence and the urban exposome (pollution and ultraviolet radiation) affect the lipid- and energy metabolism, the cellular quality control and the communication of cutaneous cells in the tissue context. These aims are investigated in collaboration with the research groups of Markus Schosserer at the MedUni Vienna and of Martina Marchetti-Deschmann at the TU Vienna, together with our industry partner Chanel PB. Another interest of our group is the generation and function of bioactive lipids in the sebaceous gland, which we study together with Daniel Töröcsik (Univ. Debrecen) https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Daniel-Toerocsik-2 in a FWF project.

We are a highly interconnected workgroup, active in the EU COST actions EpilipidNET- connecting researchers interested in the lipidome and it’s modification – the epilipidome (https://www.epilipid.net/) and in the COMULISglobe – Chan Zuckerberg Initiative on correlated multimodal imaging across the scales. We are members of the Austrian Cluster for Tissue Regeneration, and of the Vienna Center for Engineering in Medicine.
